Given the number of dots round the circle, you could also:
1) Create one dot and move a copy horizontally, then select both and Object>Blend>Blend Options setting the number of steps to one less the desired number of dots and orientation to Path, then Object>Blend>Make;
2) Cut the circle with the Scissors Tool where you want the first/last dot;
3) Select 1) and 2) and Object>Blend>Replace Spine.
That will give you the right number of dots (plus one hidden at the first/last dot). You may Object>Blend>Expand and delete the hidden dot if you want to have separate circles.
