Do you have a screenshot of the page that says anything about a beta? Because the one I saw when I installed the update says trial:
There isn't a Lightroom beta running at the moment. There is a release candidate for the 5.3 update, but I've never known them advertise that, and even that page says it's free for current Lightroom 5 owners, not free for all.
