Re: Every time I import media (wmv, wav, wma) into Premiere Elements 7, and try to move it to the timeline, I get a message that says, "this type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed. I've looked for help in some of the forums,

Concerns

Thanks for the reply. If all you have captured from Windows Movie Maker is wmv files then the whole discussion of DV AVI type 1 and 2 is of no consequence.

I would expect .wmv files with Windows Media Video 9 video compression to be supported by Premiere Elements 7 unless the Windows Movie Maker does something "special" to its use of the video compression??

(You are sort of caught between here since, if you had captured to DV AVI instead of WMV with Windows Movie Maker, you would be facing the DV AVI type 1 issue in Premiere Elements) What happens if you take one of these .wmv captures and export it from Windows Movie Maker as a .mp4 file? Or does your Windows Movie Maker give you only the wmv export and not the wmv or mp4 export?

Equally perplexing is that your Premiere Elements 7 is not accepting your files from the iPhone 4S. We could explain that away by the video being recorded with a variable instead of constant frame rate. To test that, you would need to take the iPhone 4S video into a free program such as HandBrake to change the video's frame rate from variable to constant.

Are there any videos that you can import into Premiere Elements 7 at the present time and not have problems with editing/exporting them? What about stills (jpg photos)?

Lately there have been several instances where a Premiere Elements 8 or earlier user goes to reinstall a program on another computer and gets hit with the "MPEG2 Activation" not longer supported for version 8 or earlier. Not sure if we run down a troubleshooting alley, we might run into that.

Possible Way Out Of This Issue

1. Can you post a Dropbox link in one of your thread replies, sample of Windows Media Video 9.wmv file and sample H.264.mov file?

I could cross check your results with those from my Premiere Elements 7 Window 7 64 bit and your sample videos.

2. We could go through some typical drills, the last one being uninstall, ccleaner run through, reinstall.

Latest version of QuickTime installed?

What version of Windows Media Player installed?

Video card/graphics card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?

Problem existing with or without antivirus disabled?

Running program from User Account with Administrative Privileges? Have you right clicked the Premiere Elements 7 desktop icon and selected

Run As Administrator?

Please review the above and then let us know if anything in the above is working for you.

Thanks.
